Ingredients
Scale
1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 (16 ounce) cans baked beans, undrained
1/2 cup barbecue sauce
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease.
Add the chopped onion to the skillet with the beef. Cook until the onion softens, about 5 minutes.
Stir in the garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute.
In a large bowl, combine the cooked beef mixture, undrained baked beans, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, and mustard. Mix well.
Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
Bake for 25 minutes.
Remove the dish from the oven and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
Return to the oven and bake for another 5 to 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Notes
You can prepare this casserole completely, cover it, and refrigerate it for up to 24 hours before baking. Add 10 minutes to the initial bake time if cooking straight from the refrigerator.
For a smoky flavor, use a smoky style barbecue sauce.
This recipe is a good budget ground beef recipe because it stretches well to feed a crowd.
