Make this easy Christmas Sangria for your holiday parties. This recipe uses red wine, seasonal fruit, and warming spices for a refreshing, make-ahead holiday cocktail.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (750 ml) bottle dry red wine (like Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon)
  • 1/2 cup brandy
  • 1/4 cup orange liqueur (like Cointreau or Triple Sec)
  • 1/4 cup orange juice, fresh squeezed
  • 1/4 cup apple cider
  • 1 orange, thinly sliced
  • 1 apple (like Honeycrisp or Fuji), thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 sprig fresh rosemary (optional, for garnish)
  • 1 cup club soda or sparkling water, chilled (add just before serving)

Instructions

  1. Combine the red wine, brandy, orange liqueur, orange juice, and apple cider in a large pitcher or drink dispenser.
  2. Add the sliced orange, sliced apple, cranberries, and cinnamon sticks to the liquid mixture. Stir gently to combine all ingredients.
  3. Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight. This allows the fruit flavors to infuse the wine properly.
  4. When ready to serve, remove the cinnamon sticks if you prefer a milder spice flavor.
  5. Just before serving, gently stir in the chilled club soda or sparkling water for effervescence.
  6. Serve the Christmas Sangria over ice, ensuring each glass gets some of the infused fruit. Garnish with a fresh rosemary sprig if desired.

Notes

  • For a White Christmas Sangria, substitute the red wine with a dry white wine like Pinot Grigio and use white cranberry juice instead of regular cranberries.
  • Make this recipe ahead of time; the flavor improves after 12 to 24 hours of chilling.
  • If you want a sweeter drink, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of simple syrup when mixing the base liquids.
