Make comforting apple pie flavor in a simple bar format using a buttery crust and cinnamon streusel topping. This recipe is easy to prepare for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (21 ounce) can apple pie filling
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.
  2. Prepare the crust: In a medium bowl, combine the softened butter, granulated sugar, flour, and salt. Mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Press two-thirds of the crumb mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan to form the crust.
  4. Bake the crust for 15 minutes until lightly golden.
  5. Prepare the filling: Open the can of apple pie filling. Stir in the ground cinnamon.
  6. Spread the apple filling evenly over the partially baked crust.
  7. Prepare the topping: Combine the remaining one-third of the crumb mixture with the brown sugar. Sprinkle this topping evenly over the apple layer.
  8. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  9. Let the bars cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before lifting them out using the parchment overhang.
  10. Cut into squares before serving.

Notes

  • For an extra rich flavor, substitute half of the all-purpose flour with almond flour in the crust mixture.
  • Serve these bars warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
  • If you prefer a chewier texture, reduce the baking time by 5 minutes.
