Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 6 cloves fresh garlic, minced finely
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Place the softened butter in a medium bowl.
  2. Add the minced garlic, chopped parsley, lemon zest, salt, and pepper to the bowl.
  3. Use a fork or a spatula to thoroughly combine all ingredients until the mixture is uniform and the herbs are evenly distributed.
  4. Transfer the garlic butter onto a sheet of plastic wrap or parchment paper.
  5. Roll the butter into a log shape, twisting the ends to seal it tightly.
  6. Refrigerate the log for at least 30 minutes to allow it to firm up before using.
  7. When ready to use, slice off rounds of the compound butter to melt over steak or vegetables, or spread directly onto warm bread.

Notes

  • You can roast the garlic before mixing it in for a deeper, sweeter flavor profile.
  • For a spicy garlic butter variation, add 1/4 teaspoon of crushed red pepper flakes with the other seasonings.
  • Store this compound butter recipe in the refrigerator for up to two weeks, or wrap tightly and freeze for up to three months.
