Make fluffy, flavorful garlic butter rice using simple ingredients. This recipe upgrades plain white rice into a savory side dish perfect for quick weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups long grain white rice
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  3. Add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Do not let it brown.
  4. Stir in the rinsed rice, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly to coat the grains.
  5. Pour in the chicken broth. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  6. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan tightly, and simmer for 15 to 18 minutes, or until all the liquid is absorbed. Do not lift the lid during simmering.
  7. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it stand, covered, for 10 minutes.
  8. Fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, substitute half the chicken broth with water.
  • You can use salted butter and reduce the added salt to 1/2 teaspoon.
  • This rice pairs well with grilled chicken or roasted vegetables.
