Make this fast, single-serving chocolate chip mug cake in your microwave. It is a quick microwave dessert ready in minutes, perfect for late-night cravings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 4 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3 Tbsp milk
  • 1 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 Tbsp chocolate chips (plus extra for the center)

Instructions

  1. Lightly grease the inside of a standard 10-12 ounce microwave-safe mug.
  2. In the mug, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until combined.
  3. Add the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix well with a fork until just combined and smooth. Do not overmix.
  4. Stir in 2 tablespoons of the chocolate chips.
  5. Place 3 to 4 extra chocolate chips directly in the center of the batter for a gooey middle.
  6. Microwave on high for 60 to 90 seconds. Cooking time varies based on microwave wattage; start checking at 60 seconds. The cake should look set on top but still slightly soft.
  7. Let the mug cake cool for 1 minute before eating directly from the mug.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, substitute milk with buttermilk.
  • If you want a protein mug cake, replace 1 tablespoon of flour with 1 tablespoon of vanilla protein powder.
  • If your microwave is high-powered, use 50% power for 1 minute 30 seconds to prevent the edges from becoming tough.
