A budget-friendly and easy casserole layering ground beef, thinly sliced potatoes, and cheese for a comforting family dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 can (10.75 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 cups thinly sliced potatoes (about 4 medium)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, brown the ground beef with the chopped onion over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Stir in the cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, and pepper. Cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  5. Spread the ground beef mixture evenly over the potatoes.
  6. Top with the remaining sliced potatoes.
  7. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
  8. Cover the dish with aluminum foil.
  9. Bake for 45 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  11. Let stand for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For quicker cooking, you can parboil the potato slices for about 5 minutes before layering them.
  • Feel free to add other seasonings like garlic powder or paprika to the beef mixture.
  • If you don’t have cream of mushroom soup, cream of celery or cream of chicken soup can be substituted.
