Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound sushi-grade Ahi tuna steak
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish
  • Green onions, thinly sliced, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, honey, and vegetable oil to create the glaze.
  2. Pat the tuna steak dry with paper towels.
  3. Heat a cast-iron skillet or heavy-bottomed frying pan over high heat until very hot.
  4. Add the tuna steak to the hot skillet and sear for 1-2 minutes per side for rare, or longer for more well-done.
  5. Remove the tuna from the skillet and let it rest for a minute.
  6. Slice the tuna steak against the grain.
  7. Drizzle the Asian glaze over the sliced tuna.
  8. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions.

Notes

  • For best results, use sushi-grade tuna.
  • Adjust searing time to your desired level of doneness.
  • You can add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the glaze for a touch of heat.
