Ingredients
Scale
4–5 lb beef brisket flat cut
1 cup beef broth
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon smoked paprika
1 tablespoon kosher salt
1 tablespoon black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon dry mustard powder
Instructions
In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, smoked paprika, kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and dry mustard powder to create the rub.
Rub the spice mixture evenly over all surfaces of the beef brisket.
In the slow cooker insert, combine the beef broth, apple cider vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce.
Place the seasoned brisket into the slow cooker, fat side up if applicable.
Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 8 to 10 hours, or on high for 4 to 5 hours, until the brisket is easily shredded with a fork.
Remove the brisket from the slow cooker and let it rest on a cutting board for 15 minutes before shredding or slicing against the grain.
Skim any excess fat from the liquid remaining in the slow cooker; this liquid makes a good sauce.
Serve the shredded brisket immediately with your favorite BBQ sauce or use the cooking liquid as a base for gravy.
Notes
For extra flavor, sear the brisket on all sides in a hot skillet before placing it in the slow cooker.
If you want a thicker sauce, remove the liquid and simmer it on the stovetop until reduced.
This tender shredded brisket in slow cooker recipe works well for making beef brisket sandwich meat.
