Make the best homemade burger sauce in five minutes. This creamy, tangy, and slightly sweet smash burger sauce tastes like your favorite diner’s secret recipe and works perfectly on burgers, fries, or sandwiches.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped dill pickles or sweet pickle relish
  • 1 tablespoon pickle juice
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Combine the mayonnaise, ketchup, yellow mustard, chopped dill pickles (or relish), pickle juice, sugar, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder in a small bowl.
  2. Stir all ingredients together until the sauce is smooth, creamy, and glossy.
  3. Taste the sauce. Add more pickle juice if you want extra tang, or more ketchup for a slightly sweeter profile. Add salt and pepper as needed.
  4. Cover the bowl and chill the smash burger sauce in the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to fully combine.
  5. Spread a generous layer on both sides of your toasted burger buns.

Notes

  • For a true diner flavor, spread this sauce on both bun halves before adding your smashed patties and cheese.
  • You can substitute the chopped pickles with 1 tablespoon of sweet pickle relish for a sweeter result.
  • This versatile condiment recipe is excellent as a dipping sauce for french fries or onion rings.
