Learn how to perfectly sear tuna steaks for a quick and healthy meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tuna steaks (about 6 oz each)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Pat the tuna steaks completely dry with paper towels. This is key for a good sear.
  2. Season both sides of the tuna steaks generously with salt and black pepper.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a cast-iron skillet or heavy-bottomed pan over medium-high heat until it shimmers.
  4. Carefully place the tuna steaks in the hot skillet.
  5. Sear for 1-2 minutes per side for rare, 2-3 minutes per side for medium-rare. Adjust time based on your desired doneness. Avoid overcooking.
  6. Remove the tuna steaks from the skillet and let them rest for a minute before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For best results, use sushi-grade tuna steaks.
  • You can add a clove of garlic or a sprig of rosemary to the pan while searing for extra flavor.
  • Serve with your favorite sides like a salad, rice, or roasted vegetables.
