Authentic Carne Asada Marinade

A flavorful and easy marinade for tender and delicious carne asada, perfect for grilling.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together olive oil, lime juice, and soy sauce.
  2. Add minced garlic, oregano, cumin, chili powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Stir well.
  3. Stir in chopped cilantro.
  4. Place your chosen cut of meat (skirt steak or flank steak are recommended) in a resealable bag or shallow dish.
  5. Pour the marinade over the meat, ensuring it is fully coated.
  6. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, for best flavor.
  7. Remove meat from marinade and grill to your desired doneness.

Notes

  • For a spicier marinade, add more cayenne pepper or a minced jalapeño.
  • Ensure you use fresh lime juice for the best citrus flavor.
  • This marinade is also excellent for chicken or pork.
